Clearly your viewers want to see Volvo content. The views don't lie!
Classic Volvo never gets kill. Greetings from Russia.
I always wondering, car stays 10 years outside and you didn't rebuild engine! I should be full of rust that will work as abrasive for cylinders!
Good luck with the restoration... I see more and more people buying and restoring them.
Real good job and video. Well done guys
I bet that decade old diesel just smelled delicious haha
Nice car, I would have spent 5 minutes on that until cracking the shits and installing a turbo LS V8. You guys have persistence.
I had a D24TIC 940 (a rare thing in the UK) with a straight pipe. The non-turbo D24 sounds better.
You need to install 4-food by 8-foot sheets of plywood along the bottom of your wall protecting the insulation and electrical wiring against accidental damage by water and being struck while you are working in garage. When install with wood screws to easily take off plywood sheets for access. Use wood preservative or enamel paint On plywood for water retention. Go to FIboth channel (Durtymax Jack) to see his large warehouse/garage to see how he installed the plywood.
Great ! Hoppefully one day I'll be able to take mine out of the barn for good ! Here she is : fiboth.info/like/videot/eH-YZIrHxsW4iWY
What a great choice of cars! I also have a Volvo estate, a BMW e28 plus a 1982 Ford Granada.
I think volvo & volkswagen make the best diesels.
Nice to see so much love for our swedish pride
They rust like hell, so you were lucky.
Most commonly mistake. Wait until you KNOW it runs before putting money into it, But not saying it *Isn't* worth it... But i also am not arguing that if you did un-screw the plug some and water started coming out only THEN it would be worth doing an oil change/filters before you got it running Also the reason why you do this AFTER you get it running is so that all the Chunks and Sludge goes to the bottom of the Pan... I learned this the hard way. It's a good idea too by Crack the injector lines &* bleed the system of any AIR that is trapped. those old diesels may not be super expensive but the bill will pile up over time if you are senseless.
A great looking d24 diesel Volvo! wowwwwwww
I have a 1988 Volvo 740 in USA. I would appreciate learning how I may buy a dashboard directly from Sweden or Belgium.
Fantasic to hear it start,so quiet too could almost mistake it for electric lol
VOLVO
the car looks so Iconic is this light 1:13
Park the BMW on the roof rails of the Volvo, then drive it out of the workshop. Volvo for life!
I fondly remember this Volkswagen engine in my brother's Volvo 940 estate. It didn't make much power but was ultra reliable, clocking up over 250,000 miles. Great video! 👍
@Memphis 🥳🥳
Ja die komt er zeker
Come on Memphis lad 2 weeks have gone by!
Next episode?
Hello Memphis I'm Happy to see you VOLVO restoration. Now I wait the Next video 👍
Do you think you could get me a manifold for my d24 ? thanks
So where is part 4? :)
Time for a next video finally
it is Volvo Sweden power
Come on men, your good, make more videos, please, Colin.
Klinkt inderdaad heel goed!
such happy sound from the engine, brm brmmm
Yooo, wanneer nieuwe video?
Im gonna buy a volvo soon and your videos makes me wanna buy it now
Wunderbar!
love your channel
Ik verlang naar de volgende video
New subscriber here. Great video and content. I owned 2 of these Volvos over the years and were fantastic. Bullet proof and built like tanks! Looking forward to watching more. Thank you. UK viewer. 🇬🇧👍🍻
It’s a swedish tank 🙏 the best cars in the world 😁👍
The best car ever made , it’s an honour to see it runs again mate.

"Will it run" It's a D24 mate, ofcourse it will run
She is alive ! Awesome job, simple and efficient. Great video, smooth editing... I'll come back for sure
@Memphis My dad had a 740 estate red and white pin stripe interior. The car had a Nissan patrol 2.3 straight diesel engine. After that he had a 960 estate with the same engine as this one you have. A D24 tic Volvo Audi vw engine very bullet proof. Also i remember replacing the throttle body on it. See how she idled properly when you put the throttle cable back on her. This holds the rev counter at number one. Something to do with injector timing when starting from cold. She hovers over the one on the rev counter to warm up then she drops to bang on number one when warmed up. She's a keeper 👍😊
Just remember to replace the timing belt and injection pump drive belt before it breaks and wrecks the engine. Special tools are needed, but AFAIK they are the same as used on the VW T4 (and of course the VW LT with the same engine), so should be fairly easy to find.
"not great, not terrible" - of course, comrade Dyatlov)))))))))))))))
well done!!!!
Nice revival boys. Comment. Do not use start gas on the old prechamber diesel engines. Best is to bleed fuel system and get a good and strong battery. You can actually hear how the explosion from the start gas tries to slow down the engine when you turned. But anyway. Long live Greta. :D

You should put some lights outside your garage watching from Ireland 🇮🇪

Sheila Bellevar
great stuff , i see you are in belgium by the plates , greetings from antwerp.al
did you also change the transmission oil? i recommend changing that too. it will run better.
Never ever start a sitting engine without turning over by hand first
Allez!
It was a real Volvo, unbreakable,.Someone told me at that time that the engine, the 6,was Volkswagen issued.I remember his noise ,it was a melody.
Hey memphis..should introduce your friends...they seem to be good guys, who share your passion..that is such a great facet of life and friendship..
German tech
Why you give it soooo much ether??? its not a 7.3 powerstroke
don't you want to use some engine flush? It might help the engine: fiboth.info/like/videot/r2araGbQsKbDm4c
Extremely pleased to see this beautiful 240 coming back to life! Got a 940 Turbo since 12 years, but a 240 would be lovely next to it :) Congratulations for the good work!
Great video fellas, I really good forward to the instalments.
Welcome to the world of old volvos :)
Nostalgic sound of D24...i have driven about 700000 kms in total 240, 740 and 940 diesels.
Cambelt and dieselpump belt must be changed!
ok, the Mk1 VW Golf was freakin' outstanding, the BMW a great logical choice.....the Volvo? What bet did some one lose? I was hoping for an old Porsche....ok, so we have a Volvo. I'm still watching. Especially because of the wood burning stove in the shop. That stove is great. But please, no more Volvos after this one.....
You should have first poured some engine oil into cylinders through spark plugs port, wait couple of hours and crank the engine manually. This would have saved piston rings if they were good. Starting a sitting engine without libricating cylinder first is likely to damage the rings.
That Diesl sounds terrible, knowing how a Diesel sounds, that must be the engine made in conjunction with Renault,Volkswagen,Peugeot.
@Hannes I know how a Doesel sounds , but what I mean is the engine in this 245 station wagon sounds terrible after it had been sitting outside for 10 years or more, that is what I have been saying the whole time,, also were the pumps working, for a car to start right , usually it would start right away
I don´t agree with you. It´s a very unique sound. All VW LT diesel-engines of this era had exactly this sound.
That's a Volvo for you! Volvos never die!
What year Station Wagon is it.
How nice that it started! :) I think this official Volvo D24 service manual (all in english) might help you some. It really did for me. www.240.se/litteratur/tp30224_2.pdf A tip: timing belt replacement is a bit different from other engines so I recommend to look at the manual. The belt is tightened manually with the water pump on engines made before 1993. Also, the engine have to be syncronised with the diesel pump. A zero will appear on the flywheel when the engine is in top dead center. When replacing the timing belt you should use special tool 999-5190 (to lock the camshaft on the rear side) if you can get it. All the special tools are described in the manual and some of them are still available from Volvo. Looking forward to your next update! :) Cheers from sweden!
Got a like for naming it Greta lol !!
Belgisch?
Fantastic video, great editing and commentary. Really enjoying this.
Should always lube the cylinders before starting an engine that has been sitting for a long time
Where is the mk1 engine swap?
at 9:16 it shoots smoke rings out the back :D
it's funny how you used masks when making the deal but when you are vacuuming the interior or dealing with rusty parts, you don't use masks
d24 in my heart
Squeeze the hose that rums from the intake to the cylinder head and then check if it has any blowby
Great content guys, love it!
Old Volvos never die they just get faster
Twenty years from now people who find 40 year old cars will just scrap them without hesitation.
I love old volvocars. I had three 740 and diesel too. But now im driving 940gl.
hey mate, great video and car, when is the 2nd part of the shop build coming? Greetings from Germany
3:27 they are not timing belts, they all look like V belts for the accessories. Normally the timing belt or the chain is on the other end of the engine. Anyway, great job guys
How high ceiling do you have? I wonder if I could fit a lift in my garage as well.
you risked a lot to start an engine stopped for 10 years with the timing belt so old, for me it should be the first thing to change👍
