    • I am BRAND NEW to StarCraft 2, I played the tutorial and a single CPU match (with very little idea what to do or how to do it). I did pick up on some things from that CPU game, but again, BRAND NEW. Even so, I can say with confidence that this video was immensely helpful and I look forward to playing that Campaign when I get home (>^-^)>

    • @Atharis Groholm Thanks for chiming in! I think your perspective makes a lot of sense. Basically, the idea I wanted to communicate with this video is that if you're just starting out learning SC2, imo the most important thing to understand is macro. But that doesn't mean it's the be-all end-all of SC2 or that you should only worry about macro until it's perfect. Or at least, that's not what I meant to communicate in my video. 😂 Once a new player understands the fundamentals of SC2 macro, I think it's super helpful to branch out and try other methods - whatever works for you or whatever you enjoy doing!

  • I used to think I had macro all good. Mostly because I'd find myself gathering resources faster than I could spend them after about 25-30 workers. I'll be sure to apply these new-found skills to my next game. Thanks.

  • Such an amazing video. You answered almost all of the questions I had. One of the mistakes I made is that m workers were taking smoking breakes after building another strcuture and my new workers in expanded bases were just standing still, once I had 15 idle workers. This info helps alot!!! Your macro shift keys will speed up my process by a mile as well so Im happy. The only question I had will probably be answered in your next video, regarding units with abilities and transformations... Its very intimidating and hard to control all the units and their skills in battle. So my noob tactic was actualy to build units only who can atk both ground and air without transforming... But I will check your other vid perhaps there is a better way.

    • @Ricky is my uncle I'd definitely recommend getting into ranked - it can be nerve wracking at first but once you get used to it, it's really exciting. Good luck and have fun! 😀

      AltercateAltercatePäivä sitten
    • @Altercate Normal games not ranked, not feeling comfortable going ranked when I just started playing this genre. My apm is very low, I started with 20, after watching your vids I went up to 50 immidately and reached 65 one match yesterday. I lose apm when I go all in, my next objective is to still maintain macro while crushing opponent base because you never know what will happen. From all the games Ive played this game is the most ruthless in machmaking because of the potential skill gap. The game is old, even some players that are displayed bronze were Master league at some point. At this point I think maybe playing ranked is the best option, lose and get it done with it so I can play with trash players like myself lol. On the other hand, as long as Im not last or 2nd last in those normal matches I shouldnt worry too much.

Ricky is my uncleRicky is my unclePäivä sitten
    • @Ricky is my uncle Good job so far! When you say "normal games", do you mean ranked 1v1? Don't worry about the matching - the way the matchmaking works, the game needs maybe 10-20 games (sometimes even 50) before it really knows where to place you. 😀

      AltercateAltercatePäivä sitten
    • @Altercate Ive been stuck in very hard AI but since your recommendation Im now up against Elites AI normal speed. I crushed very hard with your build while having no chance with my previous setup. Its just crazy to think I can beat elites now when they have 200 apm.lol Also normal games are a bit unbalanced, I got matched with gold plat and highest ranked Masters, even went against an whole premade alliance. So far Ive won 50% normals while always been in the middle scoreboard.

Ricky is my uncleRicky is my unclePäivä sitten
    • @Ricky is my uncle Medivacs can be a bit hard to handle in the beginning since they tend to fly ahead. There's no simple solution to it but one thing you can do is, when you enter combat, you can hold Ctrl and click one of your Medivacs, and you'll select only your Medivacs. Then, you can hit "S" to have them stop where they are, to make sure they're healing. You could also put the Medivacs on another army hotkey (for example, Marines and Marauders on 1, Medivacs on 2) to help with this. But these things all take a little extra effort, so don't worry too much about it at the start. 😀 Concussive Shells (slow upgrade for Marauders) is great to get early. Combat Shields is another super awesome upgrade if you're using Marines. And yes, attack and armor upgrades (Infantry Weapons and Infantry Armor from the Engineering Bay) are definitely stuff you'll want. Just remember not to invest in too many upgrades too early - your priority should be to make sure you're making a lot of units, and then add the upgrades in when you're already got a good production of units going! For ranked games, "Faster" is the default speed. When playing against the AI, you can start out on a slower speed while you get used to things, but I recommend going up to Faster speed as soon as you feel comfortable - otherwise you might develop some incorrect "timings" in your head. 😀

  • Are there any other units that are essential for general purpose? (you mentioned marines, zeus, siege tanks for terran and stalkers for protoss as well as queens for zergs)

    RifkyRifky2 päivää sitten
    • I would say that no unit is ESSENTIAL in the sense that you cannot play the game without it. It all depends on your strategy and the situation in the game. That said, some units are more versatile than others. For example, marines and medivacs are almost always used as Terran, at least in the early game, although it is perfectly possible to play "Mech" and skip them altogether. For Protoss, Stalkers are the kings of the early game. They stay useful throughout the game but become less powerful the longer the game goes. Late-game, you'll want to base your army on powerful units like Colossi, Disruptors, High Templars, or Carriers, using other units to support them/tank for them. The Zealot is a unit that doesn't see a lot of use in the early game (outside of certain strategies) but with the Charge upgrade it becomes a very cost-effective tank in the mid/late game as well as a great harassment tool. For Zerg, Zerglings and Banelings are units that almost always see some play, and these units stay useful throughout the whole game. That said, these units take some skill to use effectively against opponents who know how to counter them. Roaches/Ravagers are often the standard for early defense (or aggression lol) as Zerg, and Hydra is a staple response against air units. And yes, Queens - you can never have too many Queens IMO. 🤣 With all this said, though, there are so many exceptions, every time I start typing something I think of ten different things to add. 🤣 Unit composition and the strengths and weaknesses of different units is something I want to cover in a future video or series of videos, for sure. There's a lot to be said!

      AltercateAltercate2 päivää sitten
    • For terrans I would say marauders and medivacs are a staple of their early roster, you can let them die or keep them around to defend if you transition into a different strategy, for zerg I would guess that zerglings, roaches and hydralisks will form most of your early army, and for the protoss stalkers and zealots are the essentials but getting a robotics bay or air production are what you'll want to go for afterwards most of the time I hope I helped.

    • Did you watch my video called "How to win a game of StarCraft 2"? I think I do a pretty good job of explaining it there! I also have an upcoming video focusing entirely on timing attacks that will expand on these concepts. 😊

      AltercateAltercate15 päivää sitten
  • Been playing SC2 for a good amount of time now, but the way that this video is explained, makes me want to watch more. But, why the 80 workers? Isn't the "magic number" 66, enough to saturate 3 different bases?

    Victor RibeiroVictor Ribeiro16 päivää sitten
    • The reason for having more than 66 workers is that you'll usually be "in between" 3-4 bases, because you'll constantly be running out of minerals in one place while expanding in another. So in the mid and late game, if you're expanding at a good rate, you'll usually be on something like 3.5 bases. That said, 80 workers is just a guideline, and there are many situations where you'd want more or less workers depending on your strategy and the state of the game. Hope my explanation makes sense, and thank you for your kind words! 😀

  • So when you have more workers than is over the command center(eg 22/16), what does that do?

    Andy LyAndy Ly21 päivä sitten
    • Technically, you get a little more minerals per minute if you go above 16, but there are diminishing returns when you go above 2 workers per mineral patch. That's why, generally speaking, it's always more efficient to expand to a new location instead of adding more workers to the same base at that point. 😀

      AltercateAltercate21 päivä sitten
  • Remember beginners it is always good to have a lot of scvs also known as workers so that u can expand ur command center to mineral patches and also remember use the keyboard don't just use mouse

    MaultronMaultron22 päivää sitten
    • @Maultron I don't know of a good one off the top of my head unfortunately. :/ I'll try to make one myself in the near future!

      AltercateAltercate22 päivää sitten
    • @Altercate it’s super confusing - is there a video about how to change hotkeys?

      MaultronMaultron22 päivää sitten
    • Hi! Blizzard tried to minimize this problem by using as few different hotkeys as possible, and by mainly using the keys on the left side of the keyboard. For example, the standard hotkey for Probe is "E" instead of "P". This is so that you don't have to reach too far across the keyboard to hit the key. Also, you can fully customize the hotkeys in the game in the main menu! So if you're having trouble hitting a certain hotkey, go ahead and change it to something that suits you better. 😀

  • uhm... after replaying SC2 in the game training mode (not melee mode) uhm... it seem I'm doing badly as Terran(Terran Campaign) guess my Fate is FOR AIUR ! I mean I'm extremely bad at Macro stuffs as in managing the workers to mine or delay as Terran I have to like babysitting my own base if I forgot something I might suffered hard lost in early game which is bad for some reason WC3 Human is easier to play as though... as Protoss I find easier time to breath I love it when my building just build on it own so I do less micro things about it Protoss seem to be a very Reasonable choice for Wc3 Undead player to play... with summoning type of building which reduce my forgetfulness although there is one thing I'm still making mistake is queue up all 5 workers at once... though it's when emergency and tha'ts kinda my bad habit due to my time playing Red Alert 2+3 so in overall I'm trying to work on my keep on making workers (2 at the time always instead of all in 5), supply blocked, thinking of how many Gateway is enough, uhm... for Robotic Facility I feel like II need at least 2 of those theyy're like Slaughterhouse from WC3, those Facility can produce Immorotal which is the relevant of those Abomination which is GREAT at Absorbing Damage for myy Stalkers and Sentry is like thsoe useful Obsidian Statue uhm... that's pretty mucch it.... transistion from WC3 to SC2 is a pain in the ass

Arthas Hastings MenethilArthas Hastings Menethil25 päivää sitten
    • @Altercate oh and there are actually 3 resources for WC3 but it's for Undead Undead has Gold and Lumber like usual but they do have a THIRD resources is Human Resources which is CORPSE they can use it to raise the Skeleton units to fight for you and it's completely free (needed mana though) Night Elf can use Lumber effectively to raise some Treant to fight for them so from Wc3 to SC2 is very different even in resources so uhm... guess if you were to transfer... maybe spend as much as you like in SC2 BUT spend it carefuly in WC3

Arthas Hastings MenethilArthas Hastings Menethil24 päivää sitten
    • @Altercate and there are a few things I noticed in playing those 2 games... the resorces system 1. upkeep penalty. if you're over 50 or 80 supply cap you'll be punished heavily in your income from your gold mine and lumber which make players to decide should I play it safe by using better micro to micro smaller unit size ? or do I have to mass it all out but you'll get lower income in SC2... you can turtling your base, mass out even a wrong type of units but in WC3 you have to think which units you have to produce and your army composistion,...etc 2. in WC3 the resorces are way way LESSER than SC2, in SC2 you have many expos at your disposal which you won't run out of mineral and gass and in WC3 you shouldn't lose too much units... and HECK ! I DON'T HAVE TO UPGRADE MY UNIT ! in Armor and Damage upgrade... it's not a huge deal I banked up those resources in WC3 for just in case when my units died I can use those to rebuild my army without worrying so uhm... better micro in WC3 is a huger deal than SC2 cause SC2 where upgrade damage, armor, shield are essential to win 3. despite of having lower resources you can actually get more gold from creep you kill them you'll get the gold(not lumber since lumbers are all over the place) so uhm... if you creep better and faster.. the better income you have over your opponent that's all I can think of for now but yeah WC3 tempo is quite smoother than in SC2

Arthas Hastings MenethilArthas Hastings Menethil24 päivää sitten
    • I think the tempo of SC2 takes some getting used to after switching from WC3. Keep it up! You'll get there eventually! 😀

  • I have been playing sc2 for a long time but only campaign. And now I see why I play so bad. Thanks for this great guide! Just one question: Why do we start gathering gas so late? I always had the impression that I had to gather gas before the first expansion. Not questioning, just curious

    okguzelceokguzelce26 päivää sitten
    • No problem, I love questions! 😀 So, the strategy used in this video is designed to help you jumpstart your economy by getting a really early expansion and then ramping up production. Therefore, we delay gas to make sure we have as many minerals as possible in the first few minutes of the game. This build works well as a beginner because it allows you to max out your army supply very fast and helps teach good fundamentals. It is, however, somewhat risky against aggressive strategies. If you find you need more gas earlier for protection, you can totally do that - as long as you're constantly building workers, avoiding supply block, and spending your money, you're golden. 😊

  • It was great just I thought it missed out on a macro in attacking or scouting. You said at the end of macro cycle if you work on it then it takes care of itself. It shows how to attack but it doesn't explain a macro conception of it.

    Shawn RubyShawn Ruby27 päivää sitten
    • Do you mean how to incorporate the macro cycle into your play while attacking or scouting? This is definitely a challenge. What I wanted to convey is that everything in SC2 is about multitasking. But before you can multitask effectively, you first need to learn how to do the individual tasks on their own. Once you understand the fundamentals of macro and start practicing them, you'll start to build a habit, and over time, it will become second nature to do your macro cycle even while scouting or fighting. So, for example, while scouting your opponent's base with a reaper, you'll start to switch back and forth between your base and the opponent's base to quickly do your macro cycle while microing your reaper and looking at their buildings. You can see some examples of this in my new video about scouting. This is very very hard at the start but becomes easier the more you play. However, it never becomes EASY, because multitasking is hard... and that's why SC2 has such a high skill ceiling. I hope this helps, let me know if I misunderstood your question. 😀
