60 Minutes, the most successful American television broadcast in history, began its 52nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 is still a hit in 2020. 60 Minutes makes Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 nearly every week and was the #1 weekly television broadcast three times last season.

The program still averages more than 10 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest network news magazine competitor. The average audience for a 60 Minutes broadcast is 150% higher than those of the network morning news programs; the audience dwarfs the number of viewers drawn by the most popular cable news programs.

About a million more people listen to the 60 Minutes radio simulcast in several major cities and on its companion podcast. Tens of thousands each week experience 60 Minutes online. The broadcast’s segments can be watched at 60Minutes.com and on the CBS All Access app. Its webcast, 60MinutesOvertime.com, offers content originally produced for the web, including behind-the-scenes video about the production of 60 Minutes stories and timely archival segments.

60 Minutes has won every major broadcast award. Its 25 Peabody and 150 Emmy awards are the most won by any single news program. It has also won 20 duPont-Columbia University journalism awards. Other distinguished journalism honors won multiple times include the George Polk, RTDNA Edward R. Murrow, Investigative Reporters and Editors, RFK Journalism, Sigma Delta Chi and Gerald Loeb awards.
60 Minutes premiered on CBS September 24, 1968. Bill Owens is the program’s executive producer. The correspondents and contributors of 60 Minutes are Sharyn Alfonsi, Anderson Cooper, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and L. Jon Wertheim.

  • Trump... the most inept, unstable president, should have paid Mr Obama to learn how to be a civil and descent human being. A reading course wouldn't have been bad either. Good riddance to the WORST PRESIDENT TWICE IMPEACHED... in the history of the United States of America

  • Watching this as Trump leaves office in 7 days. Boy do I miss Obama, I cried the day of Trumps Inauguration, cried the night Trump won. Man has it been a long 4 years. Democracy is hanging on by a thread bare. So relieved its over but traumatized by Trumps Presidency and the Capital being seiged. So sad. Wake up Democrats!

  • This was a refreshing and tasteful portrayal of how a POTUS should act and carry himself. Thankfully Pres. Obama gave us plenty of genuine and entertaining interviews and appearances on the late night comedy shows that if we ever need a mental boost, it isn't hard to find a good one. I find myself at an odd point in history, that no one who is alive and old enough to pay attention right now won't look back and reflect on. Right at the midway point between an attack on the US Capitol building in which 4 people died, and seven days away from the inauguration of Joe Biden as President. All while Pres. Trump is facing a possible 2nd impeachment. A lot can and does happen in a four year presidential term. Sadly, I can't image Pres. Trump enjoying a cookout with other former presidents or sharing stories only they can understand or reflect on. I don't miss his 2 a.m. tweets now that he has been kicked off Twitter. Best of luck to our country. The times we are in are unlike any other and I pray we make it thru whole and with no more obscene violence or lies. God bless.

  • People think they can play politics but even Trump paid a high price thinking that he could. Only a kind of politician as Obama can play politics without disregarding the compassion and the wisdom for the benefit of the people he serves. Politics is dirty, there are so many things at play. We should not be naive into thinking that it is easy to make decisions without making compromises but still making positive changes and maintaining the democracy, safety and security of the people. If all men and women in politics work solely for the people, things would be different. Changes would be favorable to them. But that is not the case.

E Pluribus Unum (From Many Comes One) is our strength. President Obama demonstrated the importance of character and the willingness to compromise. President Obama understood that we as Americans are forever intertwined as a people that shares a common goal, freedom for all. President Obama is a bright light that has launched US on a trajectory towards a more perfect Union. We owe President Obama our gratitude because he has earned our respect. • “We should also recall the political substance beyond the pleasant image”...: Lets Not Mythologize or Whitewash Obama www.truthdig.com/articles/lets-not-whitewash-or-mythologize-obama/ “It’s well-documented that Obama loaded his team of economic advisers with Wall Streeters. So it’s no accident that Wall Street was bailed out rather than underwater homeowners during the biggest foreclosure wave in US history. The inside story of Obama’s semi-regular capitulation to economic elites is told in Ron Suskind’s book “Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President.” Largely with GOP support-and over the objections of most Democrats in Congress-Obama kept pushing the corporate-friendly Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal until his last months in office. Obama appointed Monsanto executives and allies to key food and agriculture jobs. While he acknowledged the science of climate change and talked of the need for action, Obama’s tenure coincided with a boom in U.S. oil production and lethal infrastructure, and his administration fervently promoted fracking worldwide. His health care reform, which originated with the conservative Heritage Foundation, expanded health coverage largely by enriching private insurance firms and Big Pharma, whose lobbyists were allowed to obstruct cost controls. Obamacare did expand Medicaid and increase coverage in poor and rural communities and to young people, but it still left millions uninsured. ... Yes, Obama faced intense Republican obstruction in Congress. But it wasn’t Mitch McConnell who stacked the Obama administration with corporatist appointees and policies. In pure math, Obama’s tenure was a boon to the GOP-Democrats lost their big majorities in the U.S. House and Senate and nearly 1,000 state legislative seats, while the 50 governorships shifted from a sizable Democratic margin to strong Republican majority. My point is simple: It’s not good enough to “restore” Obama-ism. Look at the recent pattern of presidential history: When corporate-beholden Democrats win the White House and implement cautious, status-quo policies while inequality worsens, two things happen: 1) Right-wing Republicans quickly take back Congress, and 2) An Yes, Obama faced intense Republican obstruction in Congress.
